Jo's Nine Patch - FINALLY!
OK, so while you were all busy on your nine-patch quilts last fall, I was . . . . well . . . . not. So I finally started on Saturday. My pattern uses the nine-patch blocks set on the diagonal in 3 columns. A border print is cut to provide alternate columns - 4 border strips and 3 pieced strips. It will hang on my back porch where I have had another quilt for more than a decade. Suffice it to say the old quilt has seen better days, and it's time to move on. These photos show the pieced strips - 1 completed and the other 2 laid out. There are also close-ups of the completed strip and the border print. I'm trying to decide how to cut the border print so that the finished quilt will be the right dimension for the wall and so that the strips will have a good part of the print at the edge of each strip - easier to sew and more attractive. Suggestions welcome!

ReplyDeleteAllow me to clarify - I did not make up the pattern. I was merely describing the pattern designed by someone with a quilting brain. NOT ME. Ha!
ReplyDeleteits still wonderful. remember when we purchased lucy's fabric and i selected the fabric for the border? I could not get it to work out either, not sure what the trick is for that. i wanted to mention it because it seems so easy to think about but not then to construct!
ReplyDeleteWhat I think I need to do is to insert a few solid narrow strips between the pieced and border strips. This will provide delineation between the strips and will give the eye a place to rest. The only problem is that it will make it wider, which I'm not sure about. I have a finite space and don't want the piece to be too large.
