Everything but the quilt

I've been a little preoccupied with other crafts the past few weeks. Below is a sample of a few projects I've been working on:

I'm going to try to find some time to sew a few blocks this weekend but probably won't get to do anything meaningful with the quilt for a couple more weeks.

Pieced

I had a lovely afternoon putting the blocks together, piecing the top. I've run out of material now and will need to decide what I'd like for the borders. I'm thinking the pale blue paisley, the pale blue polka dot, or the white rosebuds. What do you think? In the picture, there looks to be a lot of pink so I think the paisley might be the right choice...?

I had company in the sewing room too.Stella
and Rose.
Sewing is hard work.

All Together now

It is sewn together. I draped iit over my curtain rod so you could get a sneak peek.
Now I must figure out the edging and bindings. Any suggestions?

More on YouTube

Trolling around, I found this series by Missouri Star Quilt Company which does a bang up job introducing the art of quilting along with many other techniques.
You've been asking me about binding, here's a vid.

Sneak Peek

I placed my squares on the dining room table yesterday for a peek as to what they would look like. My table isn't big enough for a 5 by 7 square layout and you can see that I have a big grouping of hot pink in the upper right, but overall, I'm pleased with the shabby chic look.

Next time, I'll lay it out on the floor and then start pinning them together so I don't lose the order. I'm so juiced by everyone's input and sewing stories. Don't forget to post!

a step behind

So, I finally got around to cutting all of my fabric. I decided to follow a similar, but different pattern. It's more geometrical.

Sewing

Ok I am completely addicted to quilting and now I get it! I was only going to sew the little square groups today and instead i went crazy and finished the 8 squares! WOot! I just had to see the color groups!

I am a little unsure of the colors and might have to change out some of them. They do not seem quite right to my eye! Opinions please!!!

Stripping

Now, you've cut your strips, its time to sew them together.

The strips are cut - 3.5 inches and 6.5 inches.
Put them right sides together, iron lightly, pin in place, and its time to sew. Remember, 1/4 inch seam allowance and no need to backstitch at the beginning and end.

Press the seams towards the darker fabric. You DO NOT press the seams open like clothing construction. Press both seams towards the darker fabric being careful not to form creases in the seam.

Ta Da! Now, do this "x" amount of times depending on the size of your quilt. Next step, cutting this piece smaller.

Calming environs at the Lovelace Kennedy house -- perfect for nervewracking projects

This is my newly decorated (yet to be furnished) sewing room.

Here is a shot of the fabrics I selected last week for this project.

After folding my fabrics for cutting, I'm nervous about cutting, so am deep breathing: "Ohm..."

Jo-Ann Sale coupons

If anyone has anything else they need, I have coupons for Joann's. It's 10% of total purchase INCLUDING SALE-PRICED ITEMS. That is rare, I think. However, the coupon is only valid Sept. 4-7 (in other words, Labor Day weekend). I picked up a bunch at the store, so let me know if you need one, and I'll put it in your mailbox. Kathleen
